It’s the age-old “who-done-it” question that will continue to baffle until answered.
Who was the snitch, low life, leaky faucet who released Alex Rodriguez’s name to the media, regarding his failed steroid test in 2003?
Lets take a look at all the players in this saga, and examine who might be the culprit;
The Profiteer in the Bookstore;
Isn’t it a little too convenient that Joe Torre and Tom Verducci have a book out that centers around an A-Rod bashing story? Would someone with insider knowledge be willing to sell their soul in order to push a few more books?
Analysis: Torre is one of the most respected men in baseball, so it would be a far reach to assume that he’s the one that leaked A-Rods’ name. Verducci is a reporter held in high regard by fellow peers and wouldn’t waste his credibility just to sell a couple more copies of “The Yankee Years”.
The Spurned Lover in the Bedroom
C-Rod and A-Rod get down and dirty in their divorce, as details of A-Rod’s elicit affairs with blond Canadian bimbos and Madonna are spewed throughout the newspapers over the past year. Could this be a case of a “woman scorned”?
Analysis; C-Rod seems to like the press and limelight (remember that F-You Shirt she wore to the Stadium?). C-Rod’s stock depends on what type of a relationship her and A-Rod had; if Alex talked to her about everything between a pitcher’s tendency to throw him sliders and failed drug tests, then she becomes a prime suspect. If their relationship was “don’t ask, don’t tell” then she quickly falls out of favor.
Jealous Teammate with an Axe (to grind) in the Clubhouse;
Jose Canseco; baseball’s biggest tragedy since the invention of the Designated Hitter. The guy could hit a baseball 500 feet but never got paid accordingly (in his opinion). In his second book “Vindicated” Canseco wrote that A-Rod had taken steroids and his name was left off the Mitchell Report.
Analysis; Canseco, ever ready to make a quick buck due to financial woes, seems to be the most likely candidate out of the group. He’s got the motivation (jealousy, greed, desperation) but the question that remains is; “How did he get the names on the report?”
The Nerd in the Computer Room;
Wouldn’t it be great that we find out the guy who brought A-Rod down was a twenty five year old computer programmer in the Commissioner’s Office? This one makes the most sense.
Analysis: Dorky. Dweeby. Un-athletic. Couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Wouldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. Has to hit the inhaler after walking up two flights of stairs.
Has the brainpower to unlock the password that protects the document that has the name of all 114 failed drug-tested players in the 2003 tests.
Remembers every athlete who stuck him inside of a shower stall/locker/garbage can after administering an atomic wedgie.
Hits send on his email program after attaching A-Rod’s name with supporting documents.
Thousands of years of cruelty to the weak-bodied-able-minded erased with the click of a mouse.
The Blame Game
Canseco to Step into Ring Again
Baseball's overgrown sweetheart will take to the boxing ring again, this time facing former child actor Danny Bonaduce.
Joes Canseco is set to step into the ring, January 17, 2009, against the "Partridge Family" star.
Bonaduce is fresh off of a decisive victory over dinosaur comedian and Howard Stern Show regular; the Reverend Bob Levy.
According to an article posted on philly.com, Bonaduce says that knocking out Cansaco will be easy; "The bigger they are, the harder they fall," boasts Bonaduce. "Think of what Mike Tyson used to do to bigger guys. That's what I'm going to do to Canseco."
In Canseco's last fight, he was knocked out by former Philadelphia Eagles return man Vai Sikahema As posted on ESPN.com:
Sikahema, who is also a sportscaster, has some experience in the ring. He has had more than 80 fights as an amateur boxer, according to the Press. Canseco said he had a background in martial arts.
Sikahema knocked Canseco down twice -- once with a left hook, and the second after a flurry of punches -- as the bout was called before the end of the first round.
Canseco was recently picked up by a Boarder Patrol Unit near San Diego, and was found carrying human chorionic gonadotropin, a drug that is used to restore testosterone producti
on in former steroid users. It's illegal in the United States, unless given by perscription.Call us naive, but why would Canseco be using a drug that helps promote testosterone production in former steroid users? Did Canseco actually use steroids? This could open up a whole can of worms! Could you image what would happen if Canseco was using steroids while playing in the Majors? Gosh, that would be a nightmare...What if Canseco was using, and he wasn't the only one?!?! Someone should look into this.....
Baseball's Bad Boys Are at it Again
Just when you thought the circus might be over, baseball's two biggest numbnuts throw another clown into the ring.
According to the Associated Press and ESPN.com Barry Bonds and Jose Canseco are neck and neck in the race to become "Baseball's Biggest Loser". Bonds asks a Federal Judge to dismiss the perjury charges levied against him, while Canseco asks a Tiger for, well, basically he asks him for a bribe.
Canseco, according to a report filed by the FBI, asked Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez to invest in a movie project funded by Canseco. In exchange, Canseco said he would keep Ordonez's name out of his upcoming book, a sequel to his 2005 hit "Juiced".
Mags had this to say according to ESPN.com:
"I didn't want to press charges against him," Ordonez was quoted as saying. "I don't want any problems. He is probably desperate for money. I don't understand why he is trying to put people down."
Ordonez was not one of the players named in the Mitchell Report.
Continuing the ongoing drama between Bonds and the United States government, Bonds asked a federal judge to dismiss perjury charges against him Wednesday, arguing the indictment is "scattershot" and noted for its "striking inartfulness." (ESPN)
Bonds and his lawyers complained that the line of questioning was ambiguous, confusing, and too much for Bonds' over sized noggin to handle.
Baseball Wrap Up: 1/7/07
Fallout from Roger Clemens' appearance on 60 Minutes continues, as Clemens files a
defimation suit against his former trainer.
ESPN writer Buster Olney writes that no matter what, Clemens' name was in the Mitchell Report.
Clemens continues to maintain that the only things injected into
this rocket, were lidocaine and B-12.
In other steroid news, former Sports Illustrated editor Don Yaeger takes a pass on co-authoring Jose Canseco's next tell all book. (Just a thought, can it still be considered a tell all? Wasn't his first book a tell-all? Shouldn't this
be called a "Whoops, I forgot to mention a few things-all?)
Oakland's guys are wondering when their time in yellow and green is up.
Barry M. Bloom, MLB.com writer tries to figure out an ex-Yankee's chances of making the Hall of Fame.

Oh yeah, and in cased you missed it, Andy Phillips signed with the Reds.
New Year's Resolutions
One day into 2008, and Bed Selig just released his top ten goals for the upcoming season. In a 108 Red Stitches exclusive, we were able to get an advance copy of Selig's diary:
Dear Diary,
Happy New Year! 2007 had a rocky ending but I'm ready to look forward to a steroid free season. Seriously, this time I'm not kidding. So, with your help, here's my list of New Year's Resolutions:
1. Hire someone to take care of Canseco.
2. Make a killer "Bud Selig" create a player in this year's MLB 2K8. Anything less than 50HR/150RBIs and I'll reset my XBox.
3. Read the Mitchell Report and try to get past page 15 without passing out.
4. Win a Suzyn Waldman Look-A-Like-Contest.
5. Forgive Pete Rose.
6. Work on stand up act. See Resolution #5.
7. Hire this guy to lead new MLB tagline Committee.
8. Upload more MLB Fight videos to my youtube account.
9. Finish what I started.
10.
Fondly yours,
